Getting carried away by Seahawks rushing success
Posted by Danny O'Neil
RENTON -- There's one thing the Seattle Seahawks can not complain about the past couple weeks.
Respect.
They've gotten a ton of it from opposing coaches. Last week, Baltimore's John Harbaugh went all Lou Holtz and called Marshawn Lynch one of the top two or three running backs in the league.
This week it was St. Louis coach Steve Spagnuolo's turn to gush over the way the Seahawks have run the ball.
"We're about to face - I think - one of the better rushing teams in the league," Spagnuolo said. "It's evident. They've shown what they can do as a rushing team the past two weeks, and if we don't find a way to somehow control that, it will be a very long day for us."
OK. Time for a little bit of perspective here. The Seahawks have certainly improved on the ground these past two weeks, and the fact that it has come against the Cowboys and then the Ravens is noteworthy.
You could even call Seattle above average over the past two weeks in terms of rushing offense. But one of the best? Not with Denver running for more than 200 yards in each of their past two games, and Houston reaching full gallop. Over the past two weeks, Seattle has rushed for the eighth-most yardage in the league:
| Team | Rush yards past 2 games | Carries | Average carry | Rush TDs |
| 543 | 94 | 5.8 | 3 | |
| 446 | 84 | 5.3 | 6 | |
| 326 | 64 | 5.1 | 1 | |
| 301 | 73 | 4.1 | 1 | |
| 291 | 67 | 4.3 | 1 | |
| 285 | 47 | 6.1 | 3 | |
| 283 | 67 | 4.2 | 0 | |
| 281 | 72 | 3.9 | 2 | |
