Seahawks coach Pete Carroll explains Sunday's QB procedure

Posted by Danny O'Neil

Quarterback Tarvaris Jackson was able to play Sunday.

Coach Pete Carroll didn't necessarily want him, too, though. That's why Charlie Whitehurst started Sunday's game, the Seahawks hoping to get another week's rest for Jackson in his recovery from a pectoral strain.

"I was hoping to see that we could rest him another week," Carroll said. "I was hoping to do that."

So the Seahawks started Whitehurst for the second consecutive week.

"I was going to see if Charlie could pull it together and get something going and help us out," Carroll said.

That changed after Seattle failed to gain a first down on two of its first three possessions, leading Carroll to switch quarterbacks and put Jackson in the game.

"It just didn't feel like we were moving anywhere," Carroll said. "So what I said to the fellas was, 'Let's put Tarvaris in, let's see what happens.' "

Jackson finished the game with 323 yards passing, his career high. He has two 300-yard passing games in his career, both occurring this month.
