Seahawks QB Tarvaris Jackson doubtful, Charlie Whitehurst likely to start
Posted by Danny O'Neil
The injury-report designation means the team estimates his chances at being available at 25 percent or less.
Charlie Whitehurst has prepared all week to be Seattle's starter, and is expected to be on the field to begin the game. Whitehurst was acquired in 2010, and he started two games. The Seahawks were 1-1 in those games.
"We prepared all week long to get Charlie ready to start," coach Pete Carroll said. "And that's what we're thinking right now, but we're still going to see what Tarvaris does in the next couple of days. He threw well yesterday (Thursday), and feels OK today (Friday), so we'll go all the way up to game time to see where he is. But we've prepared Charlie, and we're ready to do that.
Center Max Unger is also doubtful because of a foot injury with Lemuel Jeanpierre projected to start at center. John Moffitt is also available to move over to center if needed.
Tight end Zach Miller will not be available as he has not been cleared to return after suffering a head and neck injury at New York on Oct. 9. Carroll expressed concerns Miller suffered a concussion after that game, and the coach indicated Friday that Miller would be evaluated again once the team returns.
"We'll just have to start all over again with the tests and stuff next week," Carroll said. "He's got a sore neck as well from the hit that he took. He just couldn't quite make it back. With the weekend and all, we'll start all over again and probably have an opportunity to have him early in the week if he's going to make it back. So we'll see what happens."
Miller's injury leaves Seattle with one tight end currently on the active roster. Expect that to change as Seattle could either activate Cameron Morrah from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list as he returns from a toe injury or promote Joe Nalbone from the practice squad.
Guard Robert Gallery, who missed the past three games after undergoing surgery to repair a groin injury, is expected to start after performing well at practice this week.
"He did really well," Carroll said. "He didn't skip a good. He looks good. He looks good. He's got his quickness, his flexibility was there. His ability and stamina was there. He had a very solid week after coming off five weeks of being out. I would not have thought he would look that good."
