Robert Gallery, Sidney Rice return to Seahawks practice

Posted by Danny O'Neil

RENTON -- Robert Gallery returned to practice on Wednesday, working at left guard after sitting out the past two weeks because of a sprained knee.

"That was great to see him back out," coach Pete Carroll said. "We took care of him, but he got physical, full-speed work today, which was good."

Gallery suffered the injury in the first half of Seattle's final exhibition game. He missed Sunday's season-opener in San Francisco. Carroll said Gallery's availability for Sunday's game in Pittsburgh will depend on how Gallery's knee feels Thursday.

Rookie James Carpenter -- Seattle's first-round pick -- started in Gallery's place at left guard. On Wednesday, Carpenter was back working at right tackle though Carroll said there's no final decision on where -- or whether -- Carpenter will start Week 2.

Gallery was the only veteran on Seattle's offensive line. He played the previous seven seasons in Oakland, starting 91 games. Center Max Unger ranks second among the team's offensive linemen in career starts with 18.

Receiver Sidney Rice also returned to practice after missing the previous three weeks because of a shoulder injury. Rice was limited, meaning he did not participate in all parts of practice.

"Having Sidney out on the practice field was great," Carroll said. "He ran around a lot and caught a lot of balls today. What that means, I don't know, but it's better than not seeing him do it. It was good to have the legs out there, and I know he felt good to be back with his teammates and all. We'll just again -- go to tomorrow -- see how he responded from today."

I know Danny, that you are remiss to form any sort of opinion on Carpenter, but the rest of us may not be a dumb as you think. What are you going...  Posted on September 14, 2011 at 6:50 PM by *logos*. Jump to comment
