Pete Carroll says Seahawks revolving door should slow as season progresses
By Danny O'Neil | The Seattle Times
The 2011 Seahawks are a more settled, more stable bunch than a year ago.
The numbers bear that out. Of the 53 players currently on the active roster, 26 were added to the team this year. Last year, it was 27 who were new to the Seahawks.
And this year, Seattle only made four roster changes in the days after teams trimmed their roster to 53 players. Last year, the Seahawks made six moves.
If it's not evident, I'm being sarcastic. Coach Pete Carroll said earlier this year that he didn't expect the roster flux that Seattle experienced a yeare ago, but so far things are actually pretty similar, and the roster change from the previous year is once again greater than anything experience in Tim Ruskell's five years as president.
| 2005 | 2006 | 2007 | 2008 | 2009 | 2010 | 2011 | |
| New players | 18 | 13 | 16 | 13 | 16 | 27 | 26 |
The result of all these changes is that Seattle has gotten younger. Significantly younger. The Seahawks ended last season with three starters who were 35 or older if you count kicker Olindo Mare. Now? There are only three players total who are older than 30, and no starter is older than 31.
It's remarkable, really.
