Seahawks trim K Brandon Coutu, DL Ryan Sims
Posted by Danny O'Neil
The Seahawks made two roster moves prior to Saturday's exhibition game against Minnesota. They released kicker Brandon Coutu from the roster, and waived defensive lineman Ryan Sims.
Seattle added defensive tackle David Howard and defensive end Mauriace Fountain, who was on the Seahawks practice squad at the end of last season.
Coutu's release leaves Jeff Reed as the only kicker on Seattle's roster presumably the replacement for Olindo Mare, the kicker who played the last three years for the Seahawks but recently signed in Carolina.
Coutu was signed during the first week of Seattle's training camp. He was originally chosen by the Seahawks in the seventh round of the 2008 draft. He spent that season on the team's roster, but was never active. The Seahawks released him in September 2009.
Sims is a former first-round pick fo the Chiefs, who most recently played in Tampa Bay. He showed up in great shape, but had his knee swell up during the first week of practice and had not been able to work out since.
• Receivers Sidney Rice, Mike Williams and Kris Durham are all in uniform, warming up and expected to play. None of those three played in last week's exhibition opener in San Diego.
• Cornerback Kelly Jennings who did not practice Wednesday or Thursday after a taking a blow to the head, is in uniform, warming up and it's possible he will play Saturday night against Minnesota.
• DE Jimmy Wilkerson, who was wearing No. 65, is now in No. 97, the number formerly worn by Sims.
