Uncertainty about Lofa Tatupu's future as a Seahawk

Posted by Danny O'Neil

Update: Lofa Tatupu was not present at the Seahawks' afternoon walk-through, which began at 4 p.m.

RENTON -- Linebacker Lofa Tatupu has been present at the team's last two practices, but watched from the sidelines.

What's going on?

Well, there is a certain degree of uncertainty about his future with the team, and the reality is that he has been asked to adjust his contract.

Tatupu, 28, signed a contract extension in 2008, which calls for him to make a salary of more than $4 million this season.

He is the nerve center for Seattle's defense, its leader and a favorite of coach Pete Carroll. The game has also taken a physical toll on him. He played only five games in 2010, suffering a torn pectoral muscle that knocked him out for the season. He underwent surgery on both knees after last season.

If he does not accept a reduction in salary, it presumably could lead to his release.
