Brandon Mebane has re-signed with the Seahawks. No terms were available yet.
Mebane is a defensive tackle, and he was the most coveted of Seattle's 22 unrestricted free agents.Mebane, 26, was drafted in the third round by the Seahawks in 2007, and became a starter as a rookie after Chuck Darby went down with a knee injury.
He has started 53 games in four seasons for the Seahawks, and he was considered a priority to re-sign. He received a lot of interest on the free-agent market with Carolina and Denver reportedly interested in him.
Asked to characterize the negotiation process with Mebane, general manager John Schneider said, "Long."
As for the importance of re-signing him?
"Being able to re-sign one of your own guys who's a hot commodity in free agency is huge for us," Schneider said. "He wanted to stay here. We wanted him to stay here. Similar to Matt (Hasselbeck), we tried doing something before free agency and it didn't work out. And then, we were able to keep the lines of communication open right after (the lockout) and everything came back on."
