CenturyLink, that's OneWord

Posted by Danny O'Neil

Yes, the Seahawks new stadium name starts with a "C" and it ends with a "Link."

But there's more to the title than those five letters.

There's also five more years tacked on to the sponsorship arrangement that CenturyLink originally purchased as part of its acquisition of Qwest, which was completed earlier this year. CenturyLink exercised an option it had to add an additional five years to the sponsorship arrangement so a deal that would have expired in August 2014 now runs through August 2019.

A new logo was unveiled Thursday, which incorporates the green that is part of CenturyLink's logo and the MLS Sounders, the blue of the Seahawks and the arc that is a signature part of the stadium's design.

The signage around the stadium will start to be replaced, and the estimate is that the rebranding with the new logo will be completed by mid-August, according to Peter McLoughlin, president and CEO of the Seahawks and Sounders.

As for the nickname that has been bandied about, referring to the stadium as the CLink? Brian Stading has heard it. He is CenturyLink's Northwest Regional president, and is relocating to Seattle where the company's regional office is. He said the fact that fans have debated a nickname shows the level of enthusiasm and commitment of the fan base.

"We just appreciate the passion," he said.
