"I'm extremely pleased," Cable said. "We went after -- as you can tell -- the opportunity to try and restructure this offensive line a little bit. And we wanted to go up in size. We've done that. We wanted to get some more athletes, mass and power. And I think both guys bring an attitude that kind of fits what we're looking for. Extremely competitive guys. Guys who were both leaders on their team, and in particular John Moffitt. Very pleased. I told John (Schneider) a week ago, if your wildest dreams, if you could pick two guys to get in the draft it would be these two. Pretty neat day for us."

Q: And it's another versatile lineman?

Cable: It is. He'll start working at right guard from the beginning, but can play either guard spot and then he also has played center in a very good league in the Big Ten. So he would bring some value there in terms of having a starter at guard potentially and also a backup center.

Q: So if you could line up today?

Cable: If we were lining up today, we'd be competing our rear ends everywhere, but it would read from right to left something like Carpenter, Moffitt, Unger, don't know at left guard and Russell at left tackle.

Q: Is this part of the pitch that Pete Carroll made to you when you talked to him for the first time about the need to run the ball?

Cable: I think it probably goes back even further. Pete and I really didn't know each other before coming here, but we had competed against each other, and our style is the same. We want to have a tough competitive team that can run it and play great defense, and I think that was part of the conversation as we got started down this path. But the first thing was to get here and really evaluate who was here, and what we want to do. You've got a bunch of good runners here. Those guys are an exciting group, and so we put some guys in front of them that we think can get something done for them.

Q: So when you started looking at the guys that were here, did you feel, 'OK, we not only need more guys, we need these kinds of guys?'

Cable: A little of both. I think we just needed to make it more competitive. I think that's No. 1 because there's some good players, and I think that when you put them in there with the two young kids we've picked up in the last two days I think we've brought our level of competition way up. I'm excited about it because going to work -- and we get a chance to do that in terms of practicing with these guys -- it should be exciting every day.

Q: With Moffitt, when did you get onto him? When did you say, 'I want this guy?'

Cable: I think it really started about a month ago for me, and then as we started to look at all this and we started to evaluate them, they really jumped out at me on tape. For us as an organization, this fits with me because they allowed us to go and check 'em out and really dig into these guys and finding out if they're real guys, not fluffy and all that other cute stuff and like to work, like to handle it when it's tough. They're real purpose-driven.

Q: When you got here and looked at what they had, and as you met and formulated a plan, did you feel right away that you needed some pretty sweeping changes? Or was this something that you gradually came to?

Cable: No, I think the process actually started a year ago with Russell, and maybe even you could say two years ago with Max (Unger). But the Seattle Seahawks -- as we all know if you look back just a few years ago -- had a tremendous offensive line, and it was really a real strength or backbone of this football team. I think it was the reason they went to all those playoff games and eventually the Super Bowl. And I think if you're going to be that kind of team, you've got to get back to that. It probably started a couple of years ago, drafting Max, and they did a great job at getting Russell. Russell was the top guy in the draft I thought a year ago. And then you fill in with these two guys and with the guys that are here already, we'll see who comes back in terms of free agency and all that, but I think it will be very competitive every day.
