Hasselbeck: 'Nothing has really changed for me'

BELLEVUE -- There was a benefit at Lucky Strike Bowling Lanes at Lincoln Square on Tuesday night, an event that helps at-risk ruth by funding the Jim Mora Count On Me Family Foundation.

Chris Spencer, Lawyer Milloy, Cameron Morrah, Roy Lewis and John Carlson were there. So were Kelly Jennings, Justin Forsett and nosetackle Colin Cole who's recovering from surgery to clean out the left ankle he injured during the season.

Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck was there, too, which offered a chance to talk to him about the recent rumblings regarding his future with the Seahawks.

"Nothing has really changed for me," Hasselbeck said. "The only thing that's changed is time has elapsed."

He hopes to be back. That was true before the season started, after the season ended and even now that he's unsigned and on track to become a free agent once/if the lockout ends.

The Seahawks have said they want him back, and with all the good feelings floating around, the only sign of a potential snafu in his return is the fact that Hasselbeck hasn't been re-signed.

Hasselbeck insisted that might not be as foreboding as it seems.

"I think that it's just one of those things, they were trying to get a lot of guys done," Hasselbeck said of discussions before the lockout. "There were a ton of free agents. It was hard to structure because we didn't know the labor deal."

Hasselbeck also said that discussions about his future have remained amiable from the beginning. And by the beginning, that means before the season started.

"We talked before the season," Hasselbeck said, "and we talked about doing a deal before the season. I went to lunch with John Schneider, we had a great lunch. We talked about it. He said, 'Hey, we're trying to do it. If we don't do it, are you going to offended?' No. Never.

"And then we talked some during. We just talked. But I think that both sides know that without the labor agreement, you would have to take a leap of faith on some stuff."

No one jumped yet, which probably explains why everyone's on edge regarding the future at quarterback.
