The Pete Carroll Show: Trufant and Carlson headed to Seattle

Tight end John Carlson and cornerback Marcus Trufant both suffered concussions during Sunday's game. They remained in Chicago overnight for observations. During his weekly radio show on 710 ESPN Seattle, Carroll said both players were returning to Seattle on Monday.

"Both guys are fine now," Carroll said Monday. "I just talked to them this morning. They're in the car headed to the airport, they're coming back. They had serious concussions in that they were out on the field for a while. That's always devastating in the moment. Those guys made it through it, and everything is OK."

Seattle had only one player on the injury report entering the game, and that was Lofa Tatupu who was questionable after suffering a concussion against the Saints.

He started, but by the end of the game, Seattle was missing both Carlson and backup tight end Cameron Morrah, who suffered a turf toe injury. Starting running back Marshawn Lynch injured his shoulder, Justin Forsett suffered a sprained ankle and fullback Michael Robinson hurt his ribs.

During his radio show, which is hosted by Brock Huard and Mike Salk, Carroll was asked about the rash of injuries.

"We had been so healthy going in these last few weeks," Carroll said. "It has been a great asset for us. But in this game, we got knocked around."

So was there any particular explanation for that?

"I don't think that there's a rhyme or reason to this one," Carroll said. "I mean John hit the ground with his head. Tru just nailed a guy on a flat route and hit him right in the knee with his head. That's why those things happened. Those are both aggressive situations. Justin got rolled up on the sidelines going out. Maybe the sidelines had a little something to do with it, maybe a little harder over there. I don't think it was anything in particular. The numbers and the odds kind of catch up with you sometimes."
