Quick hits: Coach Pete Carroll's press conference

Posted by Danny O'Neil

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll confirmed left tackle Russell Okung is not expected to play this week. A timetable for his return has not been set. Okung could be out another couple weeks or he may be back next week, Carroll said.

In Okung's absence, the starting left tackle will be Chester Pitts or Tyler Polumbus. Pitts came through Monday's practice OK, but did not work out.

Rookie tight end Anthony McCoy is not expected to play because of a sprained ankle in the season-opener.

Linebacker David Hawthorne will be available for the game after missing the past couple of weeks with a hip injury. Carroll held off confirming Hawthorne will be the starter, though, with Leroy Hill suspended. If Hawthorne is not the starter, it will be Will Herring.

Justin Forsett will start at running back and serve as Seattle's punt returner.

Leon Washington will return kickoffs for Seattle.

Mike Williams is the starting split end as expected.

Carroll answered several questions about the departure of Alex Gibbs and was unwavering that this was the result of an individual's feeling that he couldn't give the dedication required, and that it did not result from the fact of so much turnover along the offensive line or the type of linemen being brought in.

Mike Gibson will start at left guard.

Michael Robinson, signed after being released by San Francisco, will be part of the game plan and play on Sunday.

Stacy Andrews, newly acquired right tackle, could play, but Carroll did not offer a firm assessment of that.

The Seahawks locker room is currently open for interviews until 1:15 p.m.
