Chester Pitts to practice this week

The Seahawks conducted a light workout, which is fairly typical of a regular-season Monday in the NFL. This being a short week, with only one more day of practice, it wasn't much more than a walk-through as players didn't have helmets.

OL Chester Pitts was on the field, and is expected to practice Tuesday.

"It will be limited, but we'll get him out there, which is really an important deal," coach Pete Carroll said. "Unfortunately the week isn't very long for him. We'll take him to the game. He'll dress out for the game and all of that. This is an important step for us bringing him around."

Pitts, however, is not expected to play Thursday in Oakland.

Left tackle Russell Okung was on the field, wearing a sleeve on his right leg. Okung suffered a high ankle sprain.

"Russell's getting around now," Carroll said. "He's walking all right. He's coming along. We'll just have to see what happens. I know for Russell's sake, he's dying to play in this first game and he's going to do everything he can to get back, and we'll just see how that goes."

So Seattle still hopes he can play in the regular-season opener?

"If you've been around me, I'm always hoping," Carroll said. "I'm optimistic that there's a chance, and we'll hold that out until there isn't. He'll do everything he can to get right. It would be a pretty special recovery if he's able to do that, but who knows."

In other words, don't count on it.

LB Aaron Curry appeared to suffer an injury during Saturday's game in Minnesota.

"He did hyper-extend his elbow a little bit," Carroll said. "But he was OK. He played after that, and he had a very good game for us. Really, this was the best he has played for us as a matter of fact and he played kind of banged up. He played all right."

Carroll said linebacker David Hawthorne is progressing in his recovery from a hip injury, but weren't sure whether he would be available to play Thursday in Oakland.
