Jones just hoping to catch on

Posted by

The addition of wide receiver Brandon Jones is an interesting move for both the player and the team.

Jones is a former third-round pick who entered the 2009 offseason as a free agent coming off a 41-catch season with the Titans in 2008.

He was signed to a five-year, $16.5 million contract with the 49ers in 2009. The results aren't what either side hoped for as he played in eight games, caught one pass and this training camp began with Jones on the brink.,

One of the tid-bits in Barrow's story cites a report from Jim Trotther of Sports Illustrated that the 49ers' scouting staff and front office was more enamored with Jones than the coaching staff.

Scot McCloughan was the 49ers general manager when the team signed Jones. Now, he is a senior personnel executive with the Seahawks.

Jones was asked if it was his choice to come to Seattle, his preference.

"Definitely," Jones said. "I like what Coach Carroll has here and what he has to offer. I was impressed. They've got a great mix of players. This is where I wanted to be."

Jones said he sees similarities between Seattle's offense and what the Titans ran in Tennessee.

Jones is starting out playing the 'X' receiver, which is the split end. He was asked to describe his skill set as a receiver.

"I'm a possession guy and I can get the deep ball for you," he said.
