Seahawks cut Adrian Peterson to add Kentwan Balmer
Posted by Danny O'Neil
Seattle released RB Adrian Peterson and LB Alvin Bowen to add DL Kentwan Balmer and K Clint Stitser.
Peterson was signed last week after Louis Rankin and Quinton Ganther were slowed by injuries. Both Rankin and Ganther were available for Saturday's exhibition game, lessening the need for a veteran like Peterson at that position.
The move to add Stitser comes as kicker Olindo Mare has been slowed by a calf strain that was evident in the exhibition game Saturday when he did take a full run-up to kickoffs. Mare did still have the leg to convert field-goal attempts of 44 and 48 yards, though.
Punter Jon Ryan had been handling the kicking duties in practice for the Seahawks when Mare was resting the calf. Now, they have an honest-to-goodness kicker able to do that.
