Ray Willis needs knee surgery
Posted by Danny O'Neil
• Tackle Ray Willis needs surgery on his knee because of a cartilage issue, according to coach Pete Carroll. Carroll said it's not necessarily a season-ending surgery, more of an arthroscopic procedure, but Willis is not expected to be available for the season-opener.
Willis was competing at right tackle, and his departure leaves Joe Toledo and Mansfield Wrotto the two back-up tackles to starters Russell Okung and Sean Locklear.
• T.J. Houshmandzadeh was not at practice because he was tending to a personal matter, according to Carroll. Houshmandzadeh's absence was excused.
• Kentwan Balmer was not at practice, but is expected to arrive at the team headquarters Monday evening. The team has not made a roster move to add him officially as he will have to pass a physical examination first.
