Leroy Hill appears in Issaquah court
Posted by Danny O'Neil
ISSAQUAH -- Seahawks linebacker Leroy Hill appeared in Issaquah Municipal Court on Wednesday afternoon for the latest hearing in his prosecution on a misdemeanor charge of assault/domestic violence.
The hearing was in front of Judge N. Scott Stewart and it dealt with the admissibility of evidence. The prosecution and defense reached an agreement that any statements made by Hill cited in the police report of his April arrest can be introduced, but the prosecution will not be introducing evidence of two previous misdemeanor charges against Hill in 2001 in Georgia. Prosecutor Lynn Moberly mentioned those two charges in an earlier hearing. They were dismissed and won't be introduced by the prosecution in this case unless the defense opens the door.
Hill's next appearance is scheduled Friday, a hearing to determine readiness for a trial, which could begin as early as next week.
Hill was arrested in April after an altercation at his Issaquah home with a woman identified as his live-in girlfriend. Hill called police to his home. He was arrested after she said he caused injuries that were visible to the responding officers.
Moberly advised the court that the woman identified as the victim in this case has failed to respond to her attempts and those of the police to reach her. Moberly advised the court of the possibility of requesting a continuance or a material-witness warrant.
Hill is in his sixth year with the Seahawks. He was suspended last week for the season-opening game against San Francisco for violating the NFL's policy on substance abuse. Whether he faces additional league punishment for this incident could depend on the outcome.
