Follow-up on Golden Tate's Top Pot caper
Posted by Danny O'Neil
A few follow-up notes on the incident involving Golden Tate at the Top Pot Doughnuts cafe in Bellevue.
Officer Carla Iafrate of the Bellevue Police Department confirmed that Tate received a trespassing warning on Saturday morning. He was not cited nor arrested.
Iafrate said that the responding officers determined that Tate and his friend gained access to the cafe through a back door that was left open. That door opened to a hallway the public had access to.
Iafrate also said that Top Pot Doughnuts had the option of following through with the prosecution of the crime, essentially pressing charges, and the representatives of Top Pot indicated they did not wish to do so. Tate was then issued a trespass warning.
Also, Mark Klebeck, the co-founder of Top Pot Doughnuts, said in a phone interview the immediate concern was employee safety in that two people were in the cafe at a time no one should have had access. He said he was happy it wasn't more serious, that this was simply someone wandering into a donut shop that happened to be closed.
