(Mini) Camp Carroll: Day 2

One of the biggest changes on Seattle's defensive line won't be the personnel, but where that personnel lines up. In terms of alignment, the Seahawks are using two defensive tackles, a conventional defensive end and then a fourth pass rusher who lines up in the spot where a defensive end normally would be but doesn't put his hand down. This is what is a roving pass rusher, which has been referred to as the "Elephant."
Chris Clemons, the player Seattle acquired in the trade for Darryl Tapp, lined up there. So did Nick Reed, and at times Aaron Curry will fill that position also.
• Reggie Williams looked even better in his second day of practice.
• Chris Spencer is back at center after finishing last season at right guard. Why did he switch back?
"He's a natural center," said Jeremy Bates, Seattle's offensive coordinator. "He's quick off the ball. He has great hands. He's a leader of that line. He's nasty. It's a natural position for him, and we're extremely excited that he's a central part of that line."
• Quarterback Charlie Whitehurst throws a nice ball. He showed that again. Now, the second day of a minicamp is no time to start passing judgment on the worthiness of a quarterback, but Whitehurst certainly looks the part of a 6-foot-4 passer.
• The first-unit defensive line in practice has been: DE Lawrence Jackson, DT Brandon Mebane, DT Colin Cole, DE Chris Clemons.
