Cory Redding leaves for Baltimore
Posted by Danny O'Neil
Defensive lineman Cory Redding has departed Seattle, agreeing to sign a two-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens. The news was reported by WNST, a Baltimore radio station, and subsequently announced by the team.

By Mike Duffy, Ravens team Web site
WNST also had reaction from Redding, coach John Harbaugh and Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome. You can read excerpts via the station's Twitter feed:
"I don't care what my position is. Just to be out on the field will be fun for me."
-- Cory Redding to WNST"Sideline to sideline type of player. He's excited to be a Raven. He fits us. Plays with a high motor, plays with great energy."
-- John Harbaugh to WNST
How shocking is this? Not very.
Redding was acquired in a trade for linebacker Julian Peterson, Seattle's only Pro Bowler in 2008. Redding was one of the single most impressive players during training camp. That changed when the games started mattering.
Redding lost his starting job after three games. He got his first sack in the 10th game.
But when coach Pete Carroll was hired, Redding was one fo the players he mentioned in radio interviews as a lineman the team was hoping to find an effective role for.
And to be fair, Redding was one of the most impactful players on the defense over the final month of the season. Coincidence or contract? You be the judge on that one.
Seattle now has a void in the locker room to fill. Not just because of those two sacks Redding got last season, but because he was the team's best bean-bag tosser in cornhole, a popular tailgating game. Really. He even had a championship belt to prove it.
