Seahawks give Deion Branch vote of confidence

Posted by Danny O'Neil

Deion Branch's future has been a hot-button topic this offseason whether he's telling the Boston Herald he would love a chance to return to New England if that possibility presented itself or telling the Boston Globe that he loves being in Seattle first and foremost.

So what are the Seahawks saying about his future?

"Good football player," coach Pete Carroll said while sitting next to general manager John Schneider. "We both talked to him, and evaluated him, liked him, like the way he plays.

"He finished very well at the end of the season."

That's true. He did catch 18 passes over the final four games of the season.

"It took him a while to get healthy and get right," Carroll said, "but once he did, you saw a good side of him the last four games. We're looking forward to having him coming back."

I've managed to steal the GM translator that Gregg Rosenthal of ProFootballTalk.com, who is sitting one table away here. We used the translator to find out any potential alternate meanings there.

GM translator: If you're a team waiting for Branch to get cut loose this offseason you're going to be waiting a long time because we don't plan to cut him right now. To borrow a poker term, we're going to slow play this hand and see if the team(s) that may be interested in signing him will cough up a little something in the way of compensation.

Or to put it in terms Branch himself used after a touchdown catch: If you want Branch, you'll have to come get him.
