Matt Hasselbeck on KJR 950 AM
Posted by Danny O'Neil
Matt Hasselbeck appeared on KJR 950 AM with Mitch Levy on Tuesday morning. Hasselbeck is one of the players who's active on Twitter, but he wasn't able to shed any more light on Walter Jones' status after Sunday's Tweet from Jones that he would be retiring.
Hasselbeck said that one of the reasons he decided to remain on Twitter after selling a company of his last month was to keep an ear out for Jones."See, Walt never calls any of his teammates back. Never," Hasselbeck joked.
"Walt's on Twitter. I'm going to stay on Twitter just so I can stay in the know and see what Walt's up to."
After Sunday's statement from Jones regarding his conclusion that it was time to retire?
"Maybe I don't want to know," Hasselbeck said.
But what does that mean?
"Knowing Walt, who knows," Hasselbeck said. "It could be true, it might not be true ... I have no idea."
Here were other questions Hasselbeck answered Tuesday.
Hasselbeck:
"I was definitely surprised, and I was surprised because of what I had heard the last two months of the year of what the direction would be afterwards ... but things can change."Hasselbeck:
"It's very competitive. This is not about being fair. It's about winning and losing. Do I think that staff got every opportunity that other staffs around the league got, absolutely not. But it's high stakes here."Hasselbeck:
"Well, sometimes when you're working an offense, it's all got to come together. It's got to be the right mix of the right people and the right plays and the right attitude ... We, on paper, felt we had a lot of those things ... It just clearly was not that, and then I think it got a little south. We went south a little bit, and we lost confidence and it was hard to keep everybody rowing together. It wasn't the best of situations, but I can't point to one thing."
Hasselbeck:
"It wasn't like we had a cancerous locker room at all ... We just didn't have that confidence offensively ... It's a contagious thing. You've got to have the right mix, and you have success then you expect to have success."Clear up the relationship between Matt Hasselbeck and T.J. Houshmandzadeh?
Hasselbeck: "There's nothing to hide. I have a great relationship with T.J. I've never once had an argument with T.J. ... He and I have a different way of going about things ... My way to deal with was, 'Let's all come back together and really let's get a little more conservative.' ... His personality was, 'Hey man, we're not doing well. Let's do something else. Let's change what we're doing.' ... But my relationship has been great. We talked this offseason about what we need to do to get better, he and I."
