Walter Jones says via Twitter he's retiring
Posted by Danny O'Neil
Left tackle Walter Jones, via his Twitter account, indicated he is "retiring from football."
Jones has previously used Twitter to hint at retirement only to have been joking. So stay tuned to see if there is anything to this.
Walter Jones indicated he will retire from football on Sunday.
Jones said via his Twitter account that he had decided, "it is time for me to retire from football." The post was made shortly on Sunday morning, about three to four hours before the Super Bowl was to be played.
Jones has previously used Twitter to hint at his retirement going back to training camp in 2009. Never has it been this blunt, though.
Jones agent, Roosevelt Barnes, could not confirm any decision had been reached. The Seahawks had not been notified of any change in Jones' status.
Jones is one of the most decorated Seahawks in team history, a nine-time Pro Bowler including eight in a row from 2001 through 2008. He has not played since injuring his left knee in Dallas on Thanksgiving 2009 2008.
Jones is considered by most to be one of the best players in franchise history along with Steve Largent.
He subsequently underwent microfracture surgery, forcing him to miss the final four games of the season. It was the first time in 10 years he missed a game because of injury.
Jones sought to return last season in training camp, but his knee was still hurting. He underwent arthroscopic knee surgery during training camp, sought to return again in September. The knee remained too sore, though, and his recovery was compromised by the fact he can not many anti-inflammatory medications because of a kidney condition diagnosed when he was a rookie with the team.
Jones was chosen by Seattle with the No. 6 overall choice in 1997.
