Report: Seahawks to interview Washington's Jerry Gray
Posted by Danny O'Neil
The Seahawks have received permission to interview Jerry Gray, Washington's secondary coach, for the defensive coordinator position, according to the league's official Web site.
According to the Washington Post, Gray may prefer to stay in Washington, but he doesn't know if he'll remain on staff.
That's a sign that DeWayne Walker won't, in fact, be coming to Seattle as Carroll's defensive coordinator. Multiple sources indicated Pete Carroll initially targeted Walker as his defensive coordinator. However, Walker told the Las Cruces Post Sun-News Tuesday that the position of Seahawks defensive coordinator had not been offered and therefore had not been accepted. Walker did not respond to an attempt to contact him Wednesday.
Gray is a candidate as defensive coordinator, and Dan Quinn, Seattle's defensive line coach, is also a consideration to keep on staff.
Quinn also is thought to be a potential target of the New York Jets, whom he worked for before coming to the Seahawks.
Gus Bradley, the Seahawks defensive coordinator last year, also has a chance to stay on Seattle's staff. Bradley was first hired after a ringing endorsement from Monte Kiffin, former Bucs defensive coordinator and someone Carroll worked with in college at Arkansas and with the Jets.
