Game over: Cardinals 31, Seahawks 20

Posted by Danny O'Neil

Seattle scored the first 14 points of the game, Arizona the final 14. And in the wake of losing to Arizona for the sixth time in the last seven games, there are some news updates.

  • RB Julius Jones suffered a broken rib, and he was at the hospital by the second half. Coach Jim Mora said Jones will remain at the Phoenix hospital overnight. There is nothing life-threatening but he obviously suffered a significant injury.

Update: ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Jones has bleeding in his lung, which is why he was kept overnight.

  • The question has come up repeatedly regarding the down-and-distance situation in the third quarter. Cardinals ball, second-and-2 at the Seattle 7. Kurt Warner passed to Larry Fitzgerald for a 4-yard gain. There was a dead-ball personal foul called against Beanie Wells after the play. That pushed Arizona back 15 yards.

Now, there was a question from some readers about whether it should have been first-and-goal from the 19 or first-and-10 from the 19. According to Mike Pereira, NFL's officiating poobah, in that situation with a dead-ball personal foul following a first down it is always first-and-10 with one exception. If the penalty is for abuse of an official.
