Seahawks won't make a change at kicker

Coach Jim Mora was asked if he still felt as strongly about kicker Olindo Mare's pair of missed field-goal attempts as he did after Sunday's game.

"No, I don't," he said. "I'm glad you asked that question. No, I don't. I have very high, high expectations for Olindo and it's because of the work that he has done in this league. He has been an outstanding kicker and he has done a lot of great things for us. I think I let the emotion of the game get to me in my answers about Olindo.

"One of the things that confirms my feelings for Olindo Mare is the way he came out when we were down 16-17 and popped one through to give us the lead after having missed two.

"I feel strongly we're all paid, it's our job as professionals to make plays, to make correct decisions as coaches so at times you set the bar a little too high sometimes. His kickoffs were fabulous yesterday. Would I like him to make those two kicks? Yeah, but I wouldn't like him to make them any more than he'd like to make 'em."

Mora said the Seahawks won't be making a change in their kicker this week.

Now on to the injury updates:

G Rob Sims strained his oblique muscle. He underwent tests on the oblique. Coach Jim Mora's take: "For his position and the torque that is necessary to play in there, that is an important muscle. It is a sprain and we're going to have to see how he does throughout the week."

LB Lofa Tatupu ran on Monday, testing his injured hamstring. Barring a setback, Tatupu should be ready. Mora: "We expect that if things go well through the week, Lofa will be back."

T Walter Jones is still a question mark. Mora: "We still are monitoring Walter. We have to keep in mind the severity of that injury. He's a big man, and he has certain level of expectation and play that he feels it is necessary for him to meet and I respect that."

QB Matt Hasselbeck may not be ready to practice on Wednesday. In fact, Mora said if he had to guess, he wouldn't expect Hasselbeck to practice. "Touch and go. That's just unpredictable. It depends on how he feels, how he moves, the progress he makes in terms of recovering from the rib injuries."

CB Ken Lucas left the game with an injured groin in the fourth quarter Sunday, but he's expected to be OK. Mora: "He's much better today than he was last Monday. He should practice all week."
