And now a break from the litany of injury news

Quick observations from Wednesday's practice:

  • WR Deon Butler looked great at practice. First there was a jump ball he beat Kelly Jennings to, and then there was a timing pattern with Matt Hasselbeck. The ball was in the air before Butler made his cut, he turned and seamlessly caught the pass and beat cornerback Travis Fisher. The possibility of getting Butler alone in space is something the coaches are conscious of.

  • TE Joe Newton has played well in training camp, but S C.J. Wallace showed great coverage ability, defending a pass thrown to Newton down the sideline.

  • K Olindo Mare returned to the field and kicking duties, the distance of his place-kicking no worse for wear after sitting out four days because of soreness in his knee.
