Walter Jones and Patrick Kerney ready for camp; Mike Wahle perhaps not
Posted by Danny O'Neil
Seahawks general manager Tim Ruskell said left tackle Walter Jones and defensive end Patrick Kerney are expected to be ready for training camp, though both likely will be limited in the drills they take part in early on in practice.
"We'll have a program to ease 'em into it," Ruskell said. "We're very happy with where both those guys are at."
Jones typically is limited during training camp. Mike Holmgren didn't practice him more than once a day in training camp when he was coach and would periodically give him an entire day off. Ruskell indicated that even if Jones weren't coming off microfracture surgery, his practice regimen would be limited.
As for Kerney, who has undergone surgery each of the past three seasons?
"I'd expect in a very short period of time Pat will be going through just about everything," Ruskell said.
Left guard Mike Wahle's status is more uncertain. He underwent arthroscopic shoulder surgery in December. His recovery has been more problematic.
"Mike hasn't had as good an offseason in that way in terms of his coming back from his surgery," Ruskell said.
His status will await the physical examinations players undergo once they report to training camp.
"We'll reassess at that time just figure out where he's at," Ruskell said.
That's part of the reason the Seahawks chose Max Unger, the rookie who reached an agreement on Wednesday afternoon.
"We had kind of thought about that as part of the plan," Ruskell said.
Unger started offseason workouts at left guard. Ruskell said Unger will also see time at center during training camp.
