Owen Schmitt pleaded guilty to reduced charge
Posted by Danny O'Neil
Seahawks fullback Owen Schmitt pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of reckless driving on Wednesday in Black Diamond, according to Diego Vargas, Schmitt's attorney.
Schmitt, 24, was arrested June 25 in Black Diamond and charged with DUI after his black Jeep was observed weaving and following a half-car length behind another car. He failed field-sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
Schmitt was sentenced to 365 days in jail, but 364 days of that sentence were suspended. The suspended portion of the sentence will not be served so long as he obeys the conditions of conduct from the court. The one day in jail was converted to 24 hours of community service. Schmitt must pay $2,130 in fines, fees and costs and serve two years of probation.
After his arrest in June, Schmitt's blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.151 and 0.161, according to a police report. The legal limit in Washington is 0.08. According to Vargas, there were issues with the admissibility and accuracy of the breath-test results.
