Seahawks offensive line draft outlook

advertising

Offensive line

Current situation: The Seahawks lost veteran right tackle Breno Giacomini and utility man Paul McQuistan in free agency. But the Seahawks also return four of the starters from the Super Bowl and are hopeful that 2013 draftees Michael Bowie and Alvin Bailey will step up to fill in for the departed players.

Key number

7

The number of OLs drafted by Seattle the past four years. Five remain with the team.

Who might be there at No. 32: Xavier Su’a-Filo, UCLA. Su’a-Filo played a lot of left tackle at UCLA but projects more as a guard, where he could come in and immediately compete with James Carpenter on the left side. He’s 23, which should make him ready to contribute immediately.

Who might be there later in the draft: Cameron Fleming, Stanford. Seattle has had success with Stanford players later in the draft (or via undrafted free agency). Fleming started at right tackle for the Cardinal the past three years before declaring early for the draft, and is generally projected as a mid- to late-round pick.

Outlook: Seattle won the Super Bowl last season despite allowing 44 sacks, tied for 10th-most in the NFL. The Seahawks could use an early pick, and maybe more than one throughout the draft, to add depth and competition up front.

Coming tomorrow: Defensive backs.
