The newest Seattle Seahawk is a relatively old name in the NFL.

Patrick Chukwurah hasn't played in an NFL regular-season game since 2007, when he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On Wednesday, the Seahawks are expected to sign him to the roster in an effort to regroup from the loss of Chris Clemons, who suffered a season-ending knee injury Sunday in Seattle's wild-card win at Washington.

Just don't say they're signing him off the couch. He may have been out of the league a few years, but this is a 250-pound personal trainer with less than 5 percent body fat. He led the United Football League in sacks the previous two seasons.

Seattle's signing of Chukwurah, 33, when players like Ray Edwards and Aaron Maybin were available, tells you the Seahawks think there's a chance he could make an impact in a very limited role. Bruce Irvin will start in Clemons' spot, with rookie Greg Scruggs and possibly Chukwurah as the backup pass-rushing end.

Clemons led Seattle with 11.5 sacks in the regular season while Irvin was No. 2 with eight. No one else on the team had more than three.

The Seahawks are also expected to sign kicker Ryan Longwell, a 15-year NFL veteran who is a Seattle native and played for both Green Bay and Minnesota. Longwell would replace Steven Hauschka if the Seahawks kicker is unable to come back from a strained calf suffered Sunday.
