NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Titans gave themselves a little breathing room with a much-needed victory, and the Pittsburgh Steelers still can't win away from Heinz Field.

Rob Bironas kicked his fourth field goal, a 40-yarder as time expired, and the Titans beat the Steelers 26-23 on Thursday night to snap a two-game skid.

Matt Hasselbeck threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Britt with 4:19 left to tie it at 23, and the Titans (2-4) snapped a three-game losing streak against the Steelers. More importantly, the team that had given up more points than any other team in the NFL held its first opponent below 30 points this season.

"It's only one win, we know that," Titans coach Mike Munchak said. "But it's a great win for us at this point in the season when we needed a win to show people what we're all about."

Pittsburgh (2-3) lost its third straight road game this season and the fifth in six games dating to last season despite Ben Roethlisberger throwing for 363 yards and becoming the Steelers' career passing leader.

"We're not doing enough things to finish games in hostile environments," Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin said."

Roethlisberger drove the Steelers into position to take the lead after the Titans tied it. Shaun Suisham, who already had connected from 29, 28 and 52 yards, had his 54-yard attempt fall short with 49 seconds left.

Chris Johnson ran for 91 yards on 19 carries, and Hasselbeck finished with 290 yards passing.

"It feels good to win against a good opponent," said Hasselbeck, who started his second straight game in place of injured Jake Locker.

Vick owns dog

PHILADELPHIA — Michael Vick is a dog owner again.

Vick, who served 18 months in federal prison on dogfighting charges, confirmed his family has a dog. The Philadelphia Eagles' four-time Pro Bowl quarterback refused to discuss the topic just a day earlier.

"I understand the strong emotions by some people about our family's decision to care for a pet," Vick said in a statement. "As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals. I want to ensure that my children establish a loving bond and treat all of God's creatures with kindness and respect. Our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family."

Notes

• Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel was ruled out for Sunday's game at Tampa Bay with a concussion, and Brady Quinn will start an NFL game for the first time since 2009.

• New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks (knee) practiced for the first time in two weeks but was uncertain whether he would be able to play Sunday in San Francisco.

• New York Jets nose tackle Kenrick Ellis will be sidelined four to six weeks with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee. Jets guard Matt Slauson was fined $10,000 by the NFL for his season-ending block on Houston linebacker Brian Cushing, who tore his left anterior cruciate ligament.

• The San Francisco 49ers will return to London's Wembley Stadium to play an NFL regular-season game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2013.
