Matt Flynn returned to Louisiana after making a free-agent visit to Miami. He accepted the Seahawks' three-year offer, which will pay him a minimum of $10 million and a maximum of $26 million.

QB Wilson drafted

Seattle picked quarterback Russell Wilson in the third round with the No. 75 pick overall. He became the first quarterback Seattle drafted under coach Pete Carroll, and the highest pick the franchise used on a quarterback since choosing Rick Mirer No. 2 in 1993.

Tight end Kellen Winslow was acquired from Tampa Bay in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick. Winslow has 343 receptions the past five seasons, third-most of any tight end in the league.

WR pulled from obscurity

Receiver Braylon Edwards signed. Edwards was a starting receiver just two years ago, catching more than 50 passes for a Jets team that reached the AFC Championship Game. After a forgettable season in San Francisco last year, the 29-year-old Edwards went unsigned into July.

National attention for T.O.

Terrell Owens signed, the Seahawks giving him a chance to return to the NFL after sitting out last season because of a knee injury. Owens ranks No. 2 for career receiving yards, but like Edwards, played with three different teams the previous four seasons.

That headline is reduced to an afterthought when Carroll unexpectedly announced the end of a four-month quarterback competition, naming Wilson Seattle's starter on the same day the Seahawks agreed to trade Jackson to Buffalo.

Surprising move: Winslow out

The Seahawks released Winslow, a tight end who has caught more than 65 passes in five of the previous six NFL seasons, to add Evan Moore, a tight end who has caught 62 passes in his NFL career. Winslow's departure came as a surprise, as he figured prominently into Seattle's offense as a second tight end.
