QB Flynn is in
March 18
Matt Flynn returned to Louisiana after making a free-agent visit to Miami. He accepted the Seahawks' three-year offer, which will pay him a minimum of $10 million and a maximum of $26 million.
QB Wilson drafted
April 27
Seattle picked quarterback Russell Wilson in the third round with the No. 75 pick overall. He became the first quarterback Seattle drafted under coach Pete Carroll, and the highest pick the franchise used on a quarterback since choosing Rick Mirer No. 2 in 1993.
Don't forget Tarvaris
May 4
Tarvaris Jackson took the first snap with the first unit during a 45-minute non-contact practice for veterans in what constituted the unofficial start of Seattle's quarterback competition.
First signs of Wilson's role
May 13
After Seattle concluded its three-day rookie minicamp, Carroll was asked where rookie Wilson fit into the team's plans. "He left really no question that he needs to be involved in the competition of this thing," Carroll said.
Trade for TE Winslow
May 21
Tight end Kellen Winslow was acquired from Tampa Bay in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick. Winslow has 343 receptions the past five seasons, third-most of any tight end in the league.
WR pulled from obscurity
July 31
Receiver Braylon Edwards signed. Edwards was a starting receiver just two years ago, catching more than 50 passes for a Jets team that reached the AFC Championship Game. After a forgettable season in San Francisco last year, the 29-year-old Edwards went unsigned into July.
National attention for T.O.
Aug. 6
Terrell Owens signed, the Seahawks giving him a chance to return to the NFL after sitting out last season because of a knee injury. Owens ranks No. 2 for career receiving yards, but like Edwards, played with three different teams the previous four seasons.
Flynn in the lead?
Aug. 7
Flynn named starter for exhibition opener against Tennessee.
Flynn vs. Wilson, Part 1
Aug. 11
Flynn completed the first eight passes of his exhibition debut, and finished with 71 yards passing in the first half. Wilson reached 71 yards after four completions and finished with 124 passing yards. He also scored on a 32-yard touchdown run.
Sticking with experience
Aug. 14
Flynn named the starter for Seattle's second exhibition game at Denver.
Wilson on the rise
Aug. 18
Flynn was 6-for-13 passing in Denver. Five of those seven incompletions were aimed at Owens, who dropped what would have been a 46-yard touchdown pass. Wilson threw for 155 yards in the second half while under constant pressure.
Wilson put in charge
Aug. 21
Wilson named the starter for the third exhibition game.
Something hurts
Aug. 22
Flynn was unable to practice because of a sore elbow.
Wilson shines on field
Aug. 24
With Flynn out because of continued soreness, Wilson played the first two and a half quarters against Kansas City, leading scoring drives on each of his first six possessions. He threw for 185 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 58 yards.
T.O.'s quick exit; Wilson gets QB job
Aug. 26
Owens' tenure ended in Seattle with his release after he dropped as many passes (two) as he caught during two exhibition games. That headline is reduced to an afterthought when Carroll unexpectedly announced the end of a four-month quarterback competition, naming Wilson Seattle's starter on the same day the Seahawks agreed to trade Jackson to Buffalo.
Surprising move: Winslow out
Sept. 1
The Seahawks released Winslow, a tight end who has caught more than 65 passes in five of the previous six NFL seasons, to add Evan Moore, a tight end who has caught 62 passes in his NFL career. Winslow's departure came as a surprise, as he figured prominently into Seattle's offense as a second tight end.
