It took Bruce Irvin 3 ½ games before he finally got to the opponent's quarterback.
Once he registered his first half a sack in the third quarter against Oakland, Irvin couldn't wait to get back there. He had another sack in the fourth quarter, a tackle for loss and nearly another sack, turning Seattle's exhibition finale into a coming-out party for the Seahawks' first-round pick.
"I mean, I wanted to get a sack," Irvin said. "I came so close last week. I wanted to get my feet wet."
Irvin was not credited with a tackle or a sack in any of Seattle's first three exhibition games, but made an impact early against Oakland. He was credited with forcing the fumble fumble when he and Mike Morgan tackled Roscoe Parrish on a punt return.Rookie linebacker Bobby Wagner recovered the fumble.
John Moffitt returned for Seattle after missing the first exhibition games because of an elbow injury. Moffitt did not start, entering the game on Seattle's third series.
Rookie J.R. Sweezy started his third consecutive exhibition game at right guard, and Carroll said earlier this week the position is being evaluated week to week.
"John's just getting back into it," Carroll said Wednesday. "There's a lot to be evaluated there, but we're comfortable with Sweezy going right now. If that's the way it is, he would be starting. It's amazing."
• Steven Hauschka was way short on a 53-yard field-goal attempt in the first quarter. His leg tired noticeably in last week's game at Kansas City, when he kicked three field goals in the first half and kicked off after six Seattle TDs. Hauschka, who was rratic in practice this week, kicked field goals of 25 and 29, but the situation merits watching.
• Running back Leon Washington did not play in Thursday's exhibition finale after suffering an injury when he was poked in the eye this week. Strong safety Kam Chancellor sat out, resting his hip. Other Seahawks who did not play: RB Marshawn Lynch (back), CB Walter Thurmond (knee), LB Matt McCoy (knee), S Chris Maragos (shoulder), G James Carpenter (knee), WR Doug Baldwin (hamstring), DT Jason Jones (knee) and DE Greg Scruggs (hamstring).
