The Seahawks' addition of running back Kregg Lumpkin is big in a strictly physical sense.

Lumpkin weighs 228 pounds, and size is significant in this case as Seattle is looking to add a bigger player to a backfield that already includes starter Marshawn Lynch and multipurpose Leon Washington.

The Seahawks agreed to terms on a contract with Lumpkin on Friday and will sign the unrestricted free agent from Tampa Bay.

Seattle tried to acquire Lumpkin two years ago after he was waived by Green Bay, going so far as to place a waiver claim on him. The Bucs also placed a claim, and Lumpkin was awarded to Tampa Bay.

Lumpkin played 27 games for the Bucs the previous two years, but ran the ball only sparingly. He carried 31 times in 16 games last season, gaining 105 yards.

The Seahawks had inquired about Mike Tolbert of San Diego, who wound up in Carolina. They also were discussing the possibility of a visit from Oakland's Michael Bush before he signed with Chicago.

Lumpkin is the third unrestricted free agent Seattle has signed, coming after Seattle acquired quarterback Matt Flynn of Green Bay and defensive lineman Jason Jones of Tennessee.

The Seahawks also have an agreement to add Frank Omiyale, a veteran offensive lineman who was released by Chicago before free agency began.
