Seahawks' Hawaii Five, oh!Seattle was the only team in the NFL the past two years that didn't have a player either named to the Pro Bowl or chosen as an injury replacement. This season, the Seahawks will have five players appearing in the game, matching the fourth-largest Pro Bowl contingent from the franchise:
2005 (7): RB Shaun Alexander, QB Matt Hasselbeck, G Steve Hutchinson, OT Walter Jones, FB Mack Strong, C Robbie Tobeck, LB Lofa Tatupu.
1984 (7): CB Dave Brown, S Kenny Easley, K Norm Johnson, QB Dave Krieg, WR Steve Largent, DT Joe Nash, special teams Fredd Young.
2007 (6): LB Julian Peterson, QB Matt Hasselbeck, DE Patrick Kerney, OT Walter Jones, CB Marcus Trufant, LB Lofa Tatupu.
2011 (5): S Earl Thomas, FB Michael Robinson, RB Marshawn Lynch, S Kam Chancellor, CB Brandon Browner.
2003 (5): RB Shaun Alexander, QB Matt Hasselbeck, G Steve Hutchinson, OT Walter Jones, special teams Alex Bannister.
1987 (5): WR Steve Largent, S Kenny Easley, DE Jacob Green, LB Fredd Young,
RB Curt Warner.
1986 (5): WR Steve Largent, RB Curt Warner, DE Jacob Green, LB Fredd Young,
KR Bobby Joe Edmonds.
The Seahawks didn't quite hang 10 in Hawaii.
They got halfway there, though, with five Seattle players scheduled to play in the Pro Bowl.
Running back Marshawn Lynch and defensive backs Kam Chancellor and Brandon Browner were added to the NFC roster this week as injury replacements. Seattle's trio joins Earl Thomas, who was selected as the starting free safety, and fullback Michael Robinson, who was named an injury replacement last week.
Browner, who led Seattle with six interceptions, will replace San Francisco cornerback Carlos Rogers. Chancellor is stepping in for former Washington Husky Dashon Goldson, also from San Francisco, and Lynch will take the spot of 49ers running back Frank Gore.
Browner and Chancellor were first alternates while Lynch, who was the Seahawks' first 1,000-yard rusher in six years, was a second alternate. Minnesota's Adrian Peterson, the first alternate at running back, is unavailable because of injury.
Of Seattle's five Pro Bowlers, only Lynch has played in the game before. He was chosen from Buffalo in 2008, his second season in the NFL.
In the previous two years, the Seahawks were the only team in the NFL that did not have a player either named to the Pro Bowl or chosen as an injury replacement. Seattle's five Pro Bowlers matches the franchise's fourth-largest contingent.
Three of Seattle's four starters in the secondary will be appearing in the Pro Bowl, evidence of one of the biggest improvements in Seattle last season.
The Seahawks ranked among the league's bottom six teams in passing yardage allowed the previous three seasons. They picked off 22 passes in 2011, their most since 2004.
