Jacksonville's Josh Scobee nails 59-yard field goal as time expires

Franchise-record kick gives Jaguars improbable victory over Indianapolis on game's final play

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Josh Scobee watched the kick clear the cross bar, then ripped off his helmet and started running the other way.

He cut left, then right, dodging teammates all over the field.

They finally caught up with him near the sideline, setting off a raucous celebration the Jacksonville Jaguars desperately needed after consecutive lopsided losses.

Scobee's 59-yard field goal on the final play gave the Jaguars a 31-28 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday and may have provided the spark players and coaches talked about needing all week. He certainly supplied some comic relief with his victory chase.

"I don't know what I was thinking," Scobee said. "I think I blacked out for about 10 seconds. It was incredible."

It was the eighth-longest field goal in NFL history and the longest in franchise history.

The Jaguars (2-2) rebounded from back-to-back, 25-point losses.

Happy return

for McNabb

Donovan McNabb threw for 125 yards and one touchdown, leading Washington to a 17-12 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in his first game against his former team.

McNabb drew a standing ovation from the fans of his former team when he was introduced before the game.

"You realize you spent 11 years here and I knew it was coming," McNabb said of the greeting.

On a field where he made so many dynamic plays throughout his career, McNabb looked more like a game manager than an elite player but came away with the victory.

• Cincinnati receiver Terrell Owens passed Isaac Bruce (15,208) for second place on the league's career yardage list. Owens has 15,325 yards, second only to Jerry Rice's 22,895. Owens also surpassed Bruce (1,024) for fifth in receptions with 1,030.

• Indianapolis' Peyton Manning and Jeff Saturday started their 158th game together, breaking the previous NFL record for quarterback-center duos held by Buffalo's Jim Kelly and Kent Hull.

• San Francisco's Taylor Mays, the former O'Dea High School and USC All-American, caught a blocked punt in the back of the end zone for an unconventional touchdown early in a 16-14 loss at Atlanta.
