Players of the game

• Seahawks cornerback Marcus Trufant returned a third-quarter interception 32 yards for the third touchdown of his NFL career — two in the regular season, one in the playoffs.

• Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck was picked off on Seattle's first offensive play, but he completed 11 of his next 14 passes, including two for touchdowns. He also scored his first regular-season rushing touchdown since 2005.

Play of the game

San Francisco had the ball at the Seattle 6 early in the second quarter, facing fourth-and-one. The 49ers went for it, calling a play-action pass on which fullback Moran Norris was wide open for an easy touchdown. Alex Smith's pass was a little high, and Norris' attempt to turn and catch the ball was painfully awkward. The 49ers turned the ball over on downs — one of three times they had the ball inside the Seattle 10 and failed to score a touchdown.

Turning point

On Seattle's first drive into San Francisco's half of the field, the Seahawks faced second-and-seven from the San Francisco 36. Niners cornerback Nate Clements was matched up with Mike Williams outside when Seattle called a double move. Williams broke out, Hasselbeck pump-faked, and Clements bit, stepping forward. Williams turned upfield, wide open. He caught the ball, turned back inside and was not tackled until he reached the San Francisco 1. It was Seattle's longest play from scrimmage in the game. Hasselbeck scored on the next play, and Seattle never trailed again.

Seahawks surprises

• The Seahawks did not give up a touchdown at home, the fourth time in the past seven seasons the 49ers failed to reach the end zone in Seattle.

• Seattle allowed just one sack against the 49ers, remarkable considering San Francisco had 44 last season, tied for third in the league, and Seattle's starting left tackle was Tyler Polumbus, who was in his 12th day on the roster.

By the numbers

108.3 Hasselbeck's passer rating, his highest since Seattle's home victory over Jacksonville in Week 5 last season.

38 Rushing yards by Frank Gore, who has two 200-yard rushing games against Seattle in his career.

4 Victories in the past five regular-season openers for Seattle.

Injury report

LG Mike Gibson suffered a lower back strain, and OLB David Hawthorne also suffered a back injury. Both are expected to be fine. DE Chris Clemons suffered an ankle injury, but returned in the first half. S Lawyer Milloy suffered an eye injury, but also returned in the first half.

Quoteworthy

49ers coach Mike Singletary: "Tell Pete Carroll thank you very much for kicking our tails. It was good medicine, and we're going to take it."
