CALABASAS, Calif. — Former running back Corey Dillon has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting his wife during an argument at their Southern California home.
The 35-year-old Dillon, who was a standout for the Washington Huskies and Franklin High School in Seattle, was a four-time Pro Bowl selection. He last played in the 2006 season, for New England.
Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said deputies went to Dillon's Calabasas home Saturday after his wife, Desiree, called 911.
The sheriff's office reported the couple argued over a pending divorce and child-custody issues and said she had minor injuries. He was booked and released on $50,000 bail.
Dillon already faces a court hearing after he was arrested last month; police allege he was driving under the influence near Malibu.
Sharper to return
to New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS — All-Pro safety Darren Sharper is returning to New Orleans for a chance to repeat as a Super Bowl champion in 2010.
"He's real motivated to win another Super Bowl," said Sharper's agent, Joel Segal. "It's rare to have that opportunity and he's very excited."
Saints general manager Mickey Loomis confirmed Sharper, 34, had agreed to terms for one more season. Loomis did not disclose financial terms.
Sharper said in a text message to The Associated Press: "Just wanna tell you I'm extremely happy to be a Saint again. Now we can work on winning another world championship for the city of New Orleans."
Sharper intercepted nine passes last season, returning three for touchdowns.

• The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger spent the weekend in a clinic being evaluated as part of the sanctions handed down by commissioner Roger Goodell, including a six-game suspension without pay.
Goodell announced the punishment a week after prosecutors decided not to charge Roethlisberger in a case involving a 20-year-old college student who accused Roethlisberger, 28, of sexually assaulting her in a Milledgeville, Ga., nightclub.
• Steelers wide receiver Limas Sweed, 25, has undergone surgery to repair a damaged left Achilles tendon. Team officials did not disclose whether Sweed tore the tendon.
