Seahawks draft picks: Russell Okung, Earl Thomas

Scouting reports on the Seahawks' first-day NFL draft choices.

Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State

Height: 6-5 | Weight: 307 | Age: 22

Scouting report: Considered the top offensive tackle in the draft just one month ago. He's a long-armed tackle — a 36-inch reach — and versatile enough to play in multiple systems. Okung and Trent Williams were considered the two top tackles that would fit Seattle's zone-blocking system under Alex Gibbs.

How he fits: A cornerstone in the rebuilding process along an offensive line that was once the strength of this franchise and is now its most glaring weakness. Seattle started four different players at left tackle last season, two of whom weren't with the team when training camp began. Now Seattle has a prime pick to be groomed in Gibbs' scheme.

Earl Thomas, Safety, Texas

Height: 5-10 | Weight: 208 | Age: 20

Scouting report: Considered an instinctive safety who picked off five passes during one four-game stretch in 2009. Thomas intercepted 10 passes in the two seasons he played for the Longhorns, and finished every game he started.

How he fits: He steps into the starting spot vacated when Seattle cut Deon Grant, who started the past three seasons. He is expected to be a playmaker for a secondary that gave up more passing yards than all but two NFL teams last season.
