Player of the game
Carnell Williams, Tampa Bay running back, finished with 66 yards rushing, but it was his 22-yard touchdown catch on a third-quarter screen pass that broke an 11-quarter touchdown draught for Tampa Bay. His touchdown was the Bucs' first since the third quarter of Tampa Bay's game at Atlanta on Nov. 29.
Play of the game
Seattle's first offensive play of the second half resulted in a 5-yard penalty for illegal formation. The second resulted in a 1-yard loss on a run by Julius Jones after Tampa Bay declined a holding penalty against Rob Sims. Then came the game-turning play. On second-and-16, Matt Hasselbeck tried to pass to Deion Branch, who fell down when his feet got tangled with the cornerback coming out of his break. That allowed safety Tanard Jackson to intercept the pass and return the ball to the Seattle 22. Tampa Bay scored its first touchdown in three weeks on the next play.
Long-snapper Kevin Houser suffered a shoulder injury and was taken to the hospital in the second half. Linebacker Aaron Curry suffered a stinger that caused him to lose strength in his left arm, and he did not return after the third quarter. Wide receiver Ben Obomanu suffered a hamstring injury. Running back Julius Jones suffered a rib injury, but returned to the game.
He said what?
"We were a four-[win team] last year," Coach Jim Mora said. "Let's not lose track of that folks. We were a four-[win team]."
Houser's injury forced Kelly Jennings into duty as the team's emergency long-snapper, and he acquitted himself well on the one punt he was asked to do. Jennings is a backup right cornerback and listed at 180 pounds, he is the lightest Seahawk on the 53-man roster and even that number might be generous. "He's 172 pounds dripping wet," Mora said.
By the numbers
80 yards rushing for Seattle in the first quarter
48 yards rushing for Seattle in the rest of the game
4 catches for Seattle receiver Deion Branch
3 interception by Tampa Bay on passes intended for Deion Branch.
0 sacks for the second successive game for the Seahawks.
