RICHMOND, Va. — Suspended Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick wants to work with an unlikely ally — the Humane Society of the United States — on a program aimed at eradicating dogfighting among urban teens.
Society president Wayne Pacelle said Tuesday he recently met with Vick at the federal prison in Leavenworth, Kan., and that Vick said he wants to work with the group once he is out of federal custody. Billy Martin, one of Vick's attorneys, said Vick requested the meeting.
Vick is serving a 23-month prison sentence after his 2007 dogfighting conviction. He is scheduled to return to Virginia this week to serve the final two months of his term under home confinement in Hampton.
Vick, 28, is expected to be released to supervised probation July 20.
Hawks get Pittman
The Seahawks reached a contract agreement with ex-Washington Husky Bryan Pittman, a long snapper who played in 92 games for the Houston Texans from 2003 to 2008. Pittman, 32, agreed to a one-year deal, agent Kevin Gold said.
• The NFL Network will be available in significantly more homes and, as a result of two-year extensions, league games will be broadcast on CBS and Fox at least through the 2014 season.
The NFL and Comcast resolved their legal disputes by reaching an agreement that ensures NFL Network can be seen in 10.8 million homes — up from 2 million. Instead of being on the higher-pay Sports Entertainment Package tier, the network will move to Comcast's Digital Classic cable, with full launch by Aug. 1.
The deal spans 10 years and reportedly will cost Comcast 40 cents to 45 cents per subscriber, down from the league's previous asking price of 70 cents.
• League owners voted to play the 2013 Super Bowl at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.
