In the fourth quarter, the Seahawks had the ball at the New England 44, the Patriots brought safety Brandon Meriweather on a blitz. He came untouched, sacking Wallace and knocking the ball loose. Wallace said if the Seahawks had picked up the pressure, they would have had a big play down the field because Branch had beaten cornerback Deltha O'Neal to the inside.
New England had the ball at the Seattle 44, the Patriots facing third-and-10 with 5:31 left in the game. Cassel completed a 13-yard pass to Welker for the Patriots' third third-down conversion of the drive. New England converted a fourth-and-one play at the goal line to score the go-ahead touchdown with 2:50 left in the game.
