Practice break: There were two practices on Sunday, but the morning practice, originally scheduled to last 90 minutes, was cut short by about 20. The team didn't wear pads (they had worn pads during the mornings since last Monday) for either the morning or afternoon session.
Nicked up: Saturday's scrimmage produced more injuries, the most serious a torn ACL for CB DeMichael Dizer, an undrafted rookie. Dizer suffered the injury when he planted away from contact, and will need surgery. P Ryan Plackemeier and C Chris Spencer aren't expected to play in the exhibition opener at Minnesota on Friday but could return to practice next Monday. The latest injuries were WR Logan Payne (cracked rib); CB Jordan Babineaux (knee); OL Floyd Womack (knee, both he and Babineaux were to undergo precautionary MRIs); OL Kyle Williams (knee); DE Nu'u Tafisi (ankle); LB Eric Wicks (quadriceps bruise); and LB Matt Castelo (knee). Coach Mike Holmgren characterized all but Dizer's injury as minor in that each player likely won't need more than a few days to return. "It's kind of that time of camp where you have the nicks and bumps and bruises, and we're going to take good care of our guys, so we're pretty conservative with this stuff," Holmgren said.
Welcome back: LT Walter Jones missed the scrimmage but returned to practice Sunday morning, then he and OL Ray Willis got the afternoon workout off to rest. LB Wesly Mallard took part in individual drills, his first practices since July 28, and WR Courtney Taylor got in some individual work for the first time since a hamstring flared up in practice and sidelined him on July 29.
Welcome, period: The Seahawks signed OL Ben Claxton after placing Dizer on injured reserve. Claxton, a center-guard from Mississippi who was drafted in the fifth round by Denver in 2003. Claxton played in just two games with Atlanta in 2005, and hasn't put on pads since he was in the Oakland Raiders' camp last summer. The 290-pound lineman was preparing to take the LSAT for entry into law school before returning to football.
