Offensive play of the day: WR Logan Payne laid out for a diving catch over the middle on a throw from Matt Hasselbeck. With a nod to a leaping catch by WR Ben Obomanu and another diving catch downfield by WR Trent Shelton.
Defensive play of the day: DE Darryl Tapp stood up RB Maurice Morris on a run up the middle. Honorable mentions to LB Lofa Tatupu when he broke through the line and stuffed a Morris run, and LB Leroy Hill, who zoomed through on a blitz and had Hasselbeck for a sack if the quarterbacks were allowed to be hit.
Star of the day: Payne, who was surrounded by microphones, recorders and cameras after the morning practice. After a productive day of making catches, he answered questions from reporters, one who reminded him that last season, when Payne was a rookie free agent trying to make the team, he never got media attention. What is it like to be interviewed with all these reporters around you? "I don't know. How am I doing?" Payne asked with a smile while looking directly into a camera.
Snapshot: It really didn't qualify as the first full-blown fight of training camp, but starting safety Brian Russell and rookie fullback Owen Schmitt traded some stinging head slaps during the morning practice. The two got tangled up away from a running play and grabbed each other. They smacked each other upside the helmet before separating on their own.
