Holcomb vs. Lange showdown begins in 4-man bob
Posted by Ron Judd
WHISTLER -- The marquee event in the sliding sports kicks off here in moments with four-man's bobsled, where America's Steve Holcomb goes head to head with Olympic legend Andre Lange of Germany.
Holcomb, the defending world champion driving the jet-black "Night Train Express" sled built by Bo-Dyne, will attempt to give Lange a retirement present: His first less-than-gold finish ever in an Olympic event.
Lange, who won the men's two-man here earlier this week, has won a gold medal in all four events he has driven in Olympic competition.
We'll be posting updates here, and have a column for tomorrow's print edition.
First run: 1 p.m.
UPDATE: Holcomb's crew, in smooth, clean first run, 50.89 seconds, a new track record. Lange has faster start by .01, but trails with 51.14.
