Mo’s Pizza: Slices, calzones and more on Mercer Island

Mercer Island, known for its small-town vibe, also has an ever growing dining culture, and Mo’s Pizza is grabbing a piece of that pie.

Mo’s is situated in the revamped city center opened four years ago under the 77 Central Apartment Complex and strives to make food with quality ingredients, which includes house-made pizza and pasta sauces, and fresh organic produce from local growers.

The menu: Choose from 17 Sicilian style pizzas ($14.99 to $22.99) or calzones ($10.49 to $12.99) or go freestyle and build your own. There is a gluten free 10-inch crust for an extra $3.59.

There’s also a variety of appetizers ($4.49 to $7.99); soup of the day ($4.24 to $5.99); four styles of chicken wings ($7.99 to $32.99); six different half- or full-order salads ($6.99 to $11.99); six pasta dishes ($7.59 to $13.99); and 10 deli sandwiches ($7.99 to $9.99).

There is a kids menu that includes a mini 8-inch pizza ($5.49) and a good-sized portion of pasta ($4.99).

What to write home about: Our favorite is the Supremacy pizza ($19.99), which comes loaded with pepperoni, sausage, bacon, onions, green peppers, mushrooms and olives. We substituted the onions and olives for artichoke hearts instead, and our waiter was more than happy to change it up.

The Mo Meat calzone ($10.99) with pepperoni, sausage, bacon, hamburger, salami and Canadian bacon is plenty for two. My son enjoyed the big plate of kid’s penne with marinara sauce ($4.99).

On another visit we had the Chicken Parmesan sandwich ($8.99) filled with chicken, marinara sauce, Parmesan, provolone and mozzarella on a fresh baked sub roll.

The setting: A spacious contemporary dining area with 12 tables and ample seating, plus additional seating outside.

Summing up: Three of us ordered the large Supremacy ($19.99), half chop salad ($6.99), Mo Meat calzone ($10.99), kid’s penne with marinara sauce ($4.99) and two sodas ($3.58 apiece) for $50.96, tax included.
