We go to the mailbag this week. Questions were edited for brevity or clarification.
Q: Where can I catch an Election Day viewing party around downtown after work?
A: It shouldn't be hard. Many bars will treat this like a big sporting event and will have televisions tuned to the elections. Traditionally, hotel bars are your best bet since their banquet rooms often get rented out for election-related events and the party spills over to the bar.
Sazerac bar and restaurant, 1101 Fourth Ave., by Hotel Monaco, will throw a viewing party, with election-themed cocktails and food specials, starting at 4 p.m.
The Pink Door, 1919 Post Alley, will have a large projection television and $1 special on its Obama-themed cocktail. Doors open at 3 p.m.
In other areas, Bastille Café & Bar in Ballard will host a party in its back bar, starting at 4:30 p.m., though the television will be on mute until the victory speech. In Madison Valley, the vegetarian restaurant Café Flora, 2901 E. Madison St., is to host a party with $10 pizza and happy hour specials from 3 p.m. to closing. A big-screen projector will be in the dining room.
And if your Election Day plan is at home, check out the Nov. 4 Seattle Times NWArt & Life section, where some of the top local barmen concocted simple, election-themed cocktails you can make for your own election viewing party.
Q: I see different dates on the Murray Stenson fundraising-related event. So which is the correct date?
A: Multiple fundraisers are planned for legendary barman Stenson, who needs open heart surgery but like many in the restaurant industry has no health insurance. So venues such as Zig Zag Cafe, Bastille Cafe & Bar, Barrio and 206 Distillery are hosting events or donating tips or proceeds from cocktail sales on various dates over the coming month.
