The Saint marches toward its 4th birthday

The Saint, the aqua-blue tequila bar on Capitol Hill, celebrates its fourth birthday. The bar has long offered cocktails from scratch, using fresh juice and in-house sour mix, and freshly made nachos, tacos and enchiladas.

Familiarity can be good, like at The Saint. I can always count that the mounds of ceviche atop those moist, mini masa rounds will be available for happy hour. I can also tell you, with high accuracy, what cocktails will be served here regardless of the season.

The Saint, the aqua-blue tequila bar on Capitol Hill, celebrates its fourth birthday Thursday. Happy hour will be extended all night that day.

The Saint hasn't changed much over the years. It hasn't needed to.

It was one of the early bars in the 'hood to do craft cocktails from scratch, using fresh juice and in-house sour mix when Tex-Mex joints were using those awful, cheap orange liqueurs. Its mantra of focusing on simple, three- to four-ingredient drinks still stands. Those young mixologists and their overworked, eight-ingredient drinks should take note.

Its happy-hour nachos, tacos and enchiladas are made from scratch. Its most notable menu shuffle occurred 2 ½ years ago when it went the organic and free-range route. The things that made The Saint special years ago get overlooked now because every hip bar does craft cocktails and fresh food.

The Saint will celebrate its fourth anniversary the way it does every year, by bringing in the same mariachi band to play.
